It has begun!
The Dungeons and Dragons movie should be kicking off a D&D movie universe, like ‘The LEGO Movie’ meets the MCU. A few movies starting off in the Forgotten Realms (high fantasy), intermixed with Eberron (steam punk), some Ravenloft (gothic horror), moving into Planescape (science/fantasy) and merging with glipses of other realms and crossovers (Stranger Things, My Little Pony, etc)
Include game tropes and clichés
- nod to earlier editions (different magic systems, classes, edition wars)
- characters meet in a tavern, hired to kill rats in the cellar
- super optimized character with barebone backstory
- weak character with extensive backstory
- character actually raised by wolves
- between campaigns, multiple similar characters whose name only differ by one letter, or different characters with the same name of lineage
- character killed due to meta knowledge
- character dying, replaced by prisoner or other shortly afterwards
- character replaced due schedule conflit with real-life actor
- characters stumped by easy puzzle, brute-force their way past
- TPK caused by poor party decision, party awaken as prisoners
- NPC party of murderhobos, getting their comeuppance
- underestimated kobolds
- nice orcs
- luck feat saving the day
- inspiration point being gained (subtly) and used flamboyantly
- same magic shop mysteriously appears and disappears wherever the party goes
- bard trying to seduce the dragon, or the other way around (nod to Shrek?)
- rogue for whom no door or chest is ever locked, although some are mimics
- rogue named Rouge
- wizard always looking to restock their inks, scrolls and components (nod to CR’s Caleb, and every wizard)
- accidental demonstration of what happens when a bag of holding is dropped in a portable hole, with the contents lost in the Astral plane appearing briefly in foreground in a later movie, as characters are passing through in the background
- iconic monsters… tweaked to ensure surprise!
- obscure monsters
- iconic magic items
- obscure magic items
- magic item resizing or reskinning to match user
- iconic mundane items (10-foot pole, caltrops, climbing gear (or lack thereof), etc. )
- obscure mundane items (electrum pieces)
- nod to (jab at) chainmail bikini
- female armor that has pockets
- combat wheelchair
- character with gaming set (dice) proficiency has way too many dice and a dice jail; perhaps their name is some variation or 'Laura’
- nods to some other major D&D streams
- dungeons’ ecology making no sense at all, or, refreshingly, making complete sense
- nod to unspoken actions (bathroom use, changing, etc.)
- shopping session
- nod to difficulty of getting a group together to play
- and more!
