Before I Slumber

You have the power within you to do anything you set your mind to. You have the power to set the world a blaze right at your finger tips. Show the world how bright you can shine!

Character Profile W. Somerset

 "If John Doe's head splits open and a UFO should fly out, I want you to have expected it."  W. Somerset

About Him

Living… in urban decay. Somerset doesn’t really care where he goes as long as it’s away from where he lives now. The city’s crime is rampant, it rains incessantly, and the only hope a person can have is to get used to it.

Profession… Detective Lieutenant. Somerset has been a detective for too long and has seen too much in his line of work. He’s throwing in the towel, in a sense – handing over his badge, retiring to the countryside. He has one last week to serve and one last case. For this case he’ll work with his eventual replacement, the young, spirited Detective Mills.

Interests… art, literature, books, and classical music. Somerset is very cultured and has a scholarly air about him. In this way he sees himself as markedly different from most of the city’s inhabitants. “People don’t want a hero,” he tells Mills, “they want to eat cheeseburgers, play the lotto and watch television.”

Relationship Status… perpetually single.When Tracy, Mills’ wife, asks Somerset why he isn’t married, he says he came close once. He admits, “Anyone who spends a significant amount of time with me finds me disagreeable. Just ask your husband.”

Challenge… solving his last case. Somerset feels he’s seen it all and that nothing can stop the madness and evil that surrounds him in the city. He views his job as picking up the pieces. Most murders go un-avenged and detectives merely document it all. In his last case, Somerset is determined to find a serial killer among a world that is utterly lost.

Personality… calm, thorough, meticulous, jaded, and disillusioned. Somerset embodies resigned detachment. He is a scholar of depravity – feeling that he has seen it all and unwilling to see any more.

The contemplation in his detective work combined with his refined look on life and the world around him still to this day intrigues me.

Tmesis (tme-sis): Seperation of the parts of a compound word by one or more intervening words.

Example: "a-whole-nother" or "abso-bloddy-lutely"

Ruth Bader Ginsburg is evidently moonlighting.

That moment you realize that it must get boring to be a Supreme Court Justice sometimes. It seems that Ruth Bader Ginsburg decided to throw here name into the hat when Deadpool put out a ad searching for candidates to form his new X-Force.

(*Refer to approx. 54 minutes into Deadpool 2 to and the candidate interview scene)

Addiction is a real thing!

This promotional push from the TMNT guys is part of the reason for my addiction problem I still deal with to this day. Growing up yes there were moments of temptation from peer pressure to experiment. I eventually succumbed to the temptations. At first it started out a little bit here and there to get me a boost. Then I progressed to doing it more often in hiding in my bed room with the door closed and would even sometimes hide it under my bed for safe keeping. One day it happened, I finally started doing it around my friends. The more I did it the more I stumbled towards doing it out in public. Once I stepped through this door there was no going back. Ever since then I haven't been able to hide my addiction. There have been several times others have tried to give me a intervention, but they were never fully successful. I may have slowed down some here and there, but the urge always pulls me back in. Now sometimes I find myself driving by a dealer’s location just to get a glimpse. I just sit there and see all the other people getting their fix. To this day I can't walk by a pizza parlor with out getting the shake and wanting a slice.

Before I Slumber

When the weekend is over, but you know there will be another one coming up.

When you realize tomorrow is Monday.

Revisiting A Boy and his Dog (1975)

This is a classic post-apocalyptic film featuring Vic (portrayed by Don Johnson) and his dog Blood. Right off the bat if your a game player of the Fallout franchise you realize where they got the nickname for your dog companion in the movie, "Dog Meat". The movie does tread on some questionable topics here and there, but it a overall good film for its time and the story it tells.

A Boy and His Dog is a 1975 American science fiction comedy thriller film produced, written (with Alvy Moore), and directed by L. Q. Jones, starring Don Johnson, Susanne Benton, Ron Feinberg, and Jason Robards.The film was distributed in the United States by LQ/JAF Productions and in the United Kingdom by Anglo-EMI Film Distributors. The film's script is based on the 1969 cycle of narratives by fantasy author Harlan Ellison titled A Boy and His Dog. The film concerns a teenage boy (Vic) and his telepathic dog (Blood), who work together as a team in order to survive in the dangerous post-apocalyptic wasteland of the Southwestern United States. On August 6, 2013, Shout! Factory released the film on DVD and Blu-ray.

This film is currently in public domain, which means its free.

Set in a post-nuclear war Earth in the year 2024, the main character, Vic (Don Johnson) is an 18-year-old boy, born in and scavenging throughout the wasteland of the former southwestern United States. Vic is most concerned with food and sex; having lost both of his parents, he has no formal education and does not understand ethics or morality. He is accompanied by a well-read, misanthropic, telepathic dog named Blood who helps him locate women in return for food. Blood cannot forage for himself due to the same genetic engineering that granted him telepathy. The two steal for a living, evading bands of marauders, berserk androids, and mutants. Blood and Vic have an occasionally antagonistic relationship (Blood frequently annoys Vic by calling him "Albert" for reasons never made clear), though they realize they need each other. Blood wishes to find the legendary promised land of "Over the Hill" where aboveground utopias are said to exist, though Vic believes that they must make the best of what they have. Searching a bunker for a woman for Vic to rape, they find one, but she has already been severely mutilated and is on the verge of death. Vic displays no pity, and is merely angered by the "wastefulness" of such an act as well as disgusted by the thought of satisfying his urges with a woman in such a condition. They move on, only to find slavers excavating another bunker. Vic steals several cans of their food, later using them to barter for goods in a nearby shantytown settlement. That evening, while watching old vintage stag films at a local outdoor movie house, Blood claims to smell a woman, and the pair track her to a large underground warehouse. There, they meet Quilla June Holmes (Susanne Benton), a scheming and seductive teenage girl from "Downunder", a society located in a large underground vault. Unknown to the pair, Quilla June's father, Lou Craddock (Jason Robards), had sent her above ground to "recruit" surface dwellers. Blood takes an instant dislike to her, but Vic ignores him. After Vic saves Quilla June from raiders and mutants, they have repeated sex. Eventually, though, she takes off secretly to return to her underground society. Vic, enticed by the thought of women and sex, follows her, despite Blood's warnings. Blood remains at the portal on the surface.

Downunder has an artificial biosphere, complete with forests and an underground city, which is named Topeka, after the ruins of the city it lies beneath. The entire city is ruled by a triumvirate known as "the Committee", who have shaped Topeka into a bizarre caricature of pre-nuclear war America, with all residents wearing whiteface and clothes that harken back to the rural United States prior to World War II. Vic is told that he has been brought to Topeka to help fertilize the female population and is elated to learn of his value as a "stud". Then he is told that Topeka meets its need for exogamous reproduction by electroejaculation and artificial insemination, which will not allow him to feel the pleasure or release that he seeks. Anybody who refuses to comply or otherwise defies the Committee is sent off to "the farm" and never seen again. Vic is then told that when his sperm has been used to impregnate 35 women, he will be sent to "the farm".

Quilla June helps Vic escape because she wants him to kill the Committee members and destroy their android enforcer, Michael (Hal Baylor), so that she can usurp power. Vic has no interest in politics or remaining underground, only wishing to return to Blood and the wasteland, where he feels at home. The rebellion is quashed by Michael, who crushes the heads of Quilla June's two co-conspirators before Vic disables him. She proclaims her "love" for Vic and decides to escape to the surface with him, realizing that her rebellion has been undone and that the Committee has decreed that she is to be sent to "the farm".

On the surface, Vic and Quilla June discover Blood is starving and near death. She pleads with him to abandon Blood, forcing Vic to face his feelings. Vic decides that his loyalties lie with Blood. This results, off-camera, in her being killed and her flesh cooked, so that Blood can eat and survive. Blood thanks Vic for the food, and they both comment on Quilla June, with Vic stating it was her fault to follow him, and Blood joking that she did not have bad "taste". The film ends with the boy and his dog walking off into the wasteland together.

The Message Was In The Words.

"Like A Stone"

On a cobweb afternoon,
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages of a book full of death;
Reading how we'll die alone.
And if we're good we'll lay to rest,
Anywhere we wanna go.

In your house I long to be;
Room by room patiently,
I'll wait for you there like a stone.
I'll wait for you there alone.

And on my deathbed I will pray to the gods and the angels,
Like a pagan to anyone who will take me to heaven;
To a place I recall, I was there so long ago.
The sky was bruised, the wine was bled, and there you led me on.

In your house I long to be;
Room by room, patiently,
I'll wait for you there like a stone.
I'll wait for you there alone, alone.

And on I read until the day was gone;
And I sat in regret of all the things I've done;
For all that I've blessed, and all that I've wronged.
In dreams until my death I will wander on.

In your house I long to be;
Room by room, patiently,
I'll wait for you there like a stone.
I'll wait for you there alone, alone.

Revisiting Megaforce (1982)

I remember watching this movie back when it came out and having the Matchbox cars that Mattel brought out to go with it. In fact I still have one of the Destroyers from when I was little in my collection to this day. I even remember playing the game that came out for the Atari, which I still also have in good working condition. I know it didn't get very high acclaim when it came out but it is still a part of movie history from the 80's no matter how good or bad you feel it is.

The story involves two fictional countries, the peaceful Republic of Sardun and their aggressive neighbor Gamibia. Unable to defend themselves from a Gamibian incursion, Sardun sends Major Zara and General Byrne-White to ask the help of MegaForce – a secret army composed of international soldiers from throughout the western world, equipped with advanced weapons and vehicles. The MegaForce leader, Commander Ace Hunter, will lead a mission to destroy the Gamibian forces, which are led by his rival, and former military academy friend, Duke Gurerra. While Hunter composes an elaborate battle plan to destroy Gurerra's forces, Zara tries out to become a member of MegaForce. As she executes the various tests, Hunter's feelings of affection toward her grow. And while she passes the tests, he is unable to allow her to participate in their raid, because her presence, as an outsider, would disrupt the trust and familiarity of his force.

Eventually, MegaForce successfully para-drops its attack vehicles into Gamibia and Hunter mounts his sneak attack against Gurerra's forces. Although they manage to destroy his base, Gurerra has set a trap for them at the team's only means of escape – a dry lake bed where the cargo planes will pick them up. Gurerra sends his tanks to secure the lake bed while Hunter comes up with a plan to attack Gurerra from behind by crossing over a mountain range the enemy tanks had turned their backs toward.

The plan succeeds, and MegaForce manages to break through Gurerra's tanks, but one of MegaForce's cargo planes is damaged in the process. Having to abandon their high-tech vehicles (which they program to self-destruct), the team successfully makes it on foot to the last plane, except for Hunter. The commander, instead, makes his own dramatic escape on his motorcycle after it deploys airfoils and a rocket motor and catches up with the cargo plane in midair. Although he has lost the battle, Gurerra shows admiration for Hunter's cunning, and he gives his old friend a thumbs up.

A Day Of Mourning

Today our beloved Stubby D passed on at 1:51pm. We took Stubby D in back in 2016 when a family friend Deb passed away. We would like to think that Stubby D was missed by Deb and needed him with her. His white blood count was dangerously low making us assume possible leukemia. You are missed and always loved lil buddy.
